IF you were to bump into Liam Smith today, you would have no idea he was embarking on the biggest fight of his life in two days time. At the AT&T Stadium in Arlington on Saturday night, Canelo Alvarez – arguably the biggest star in the boxing world and a huge favourite – will attempt to take Smith’s WBO super-welterweight title.

This morning, at Smith’s hotel, the Gaylord Resort in Dallas, the Scouser had breakfast with his team (trainer Joe Gallagher, manager Matthew Macklin, his father Paul Smith, and former WBA super-bantamweight champion Scott Quigg) and spoke about the task he is undertaking. He was calm, relaxed, incredibly confident, and happy to pose for photos with restaurant staff and fans.
