THE rematch between heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury and the division’s former ruler Wladimir Klitschko could be heading to Manchester, England on July 9, according to Tyson’s uncle and trainer Peter Fury.

On social media Peter said, “9th July Tyson Fury versus Klitschko coming to Manchester, UK. Official announcement coming 12 noon.”

Tyson’s promoter Mick Hennessy tells Boxing News that “things are being finalised at the moment” so the rematch still awaits official confirmation. It would be a coup for Tyson’s to bring Klitschko to Britain and the champion’s home town. Their first fight took place in Dusseldorf and it was initially thought the rematch would take place in Germany, once far flung locales like a multi-millionaire’s yacht were ruled out.

Manchester of course has football stadia to choose from as well as the famous boxing venue the Manchester Arena, which has hosted the likes of Ricky Hatton, Carl Froch and more recently the Carl Frampton-Scott Quigg showdown.
