No. It’s scandalous. On one hand DAZN want to get subscribers and on the other they’re giving the green light to someone like Lemieux – who Billy Joe Saunders took to the cleaners – to fight their biggest star? Now Billy Joe has ruled himself out, it should be Callum Smith getting the fight. Simple as that.

Former British champion

David Lemieux is a terrible guy for Canelo to fight. Absolutely terrible. We have two guys in Britain, Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders, who can give him a run for his money. Those are the kind of fights Canelo needs. He’s the pound for pound number one, he shouldn’t waste his time with Lemieux. It’s pointless.

Not at all. You’d rather see fair offers made to Billy Joe Saunders, Callum Smith or even Chris Eubank Jnr. I used to love watching Lemieux when he was on the way up but it appears his best days are in the past. Canelo-Lemieux doesn’t exactly make you say ‘wow’ does it? Fans need that buzz from Canelo.

Suitable? No. Deserving? No. It might be entertaining for as long as it lasts but Alvarez is at the stage of his career where if it’s a not a big fight or a big test, it’s a ding to his reputation And rightly so. Lemieux has a puncher’s chance but this might as well be Canelo-Fielding in terms of significance.
