AFTER failing to make weight on Friday, Scott Quigg was unable to win the WBO featherweight title against Oscar Valdez on Saturday at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.

He attributed the issue to problems he had in training after fracturing a bone in his foot. Although Quigg refused to weigh-in on the Saturday the fight went ahead and Scott endured a punishing unanimous decision defeat. He sustained a broken nose during the fight as well. In a gruelling 12 rounds Valdez finished strongly but also had to endure a suspected broken jaw.

Larry Hazzard Jr scored 118-110 and both Max DeLuca and Terry O’Connor had it 117-111, all for Valdez.

“Early on we went toe to toe and then he started to box and I didn’t. I gave him a bit too much room and towards then end we started going at it again. I thought it was an exciting fight for the fans. I enjoyed it. I thought it was a bit closer than the scorecards but I think the right man won,” Quigg said afterwards. “

“Both guys showed unbelievable heart it was a brilliant fight,” said Quigg’s promoter Eddie Hearn.
