British bantamweight Qais Ashfaq lost a razor thin split decision Bakhtovar Nazirov, his Russian rival who consigned him to a bronze medal at the European Games.

Quality Irish 49kgs Brendan Irvine beat America’s Nico Hernandez unanimously.

Irish light-welter Dean Walsh lost a split verdict Venezuela’s Luis Diaz Arcon. Ireland’s middleweight Michael O’Reilly got his campaign off to a good start, unanimously outscoring Ukraine’s Valerii Kharlamov.
