LATER this year middleweight champion Danny Jacobs aims to move up to 168lbs and fight a star name in Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr.

The date being targeted for the bout is December 20 with the MGM Grand in Las Vegas the potential venue. Streaming service DAZN would broadcast in the US.

Confident American Jacobs has fought both Gennady Golovkin and Canelo Alvarez. He was not victorious but acquitted himself well in those two points defeats. He also beat impressive then stablemate Sergey Derevyanchenko to win the IBF middleweight title last year.

This fight against Chavez would be Jacobs’ first at super-middleweight and would make him an exciting new addition to a quality division.

Chavez Junior is the, sometimes wayward, son of Mexican legend Julio Cesar Chavez. His career has been unpredictable but not without excitement. He succumbed tamely though to Canelo in 2017, the last time he fought in Las Vegas. Junior sat out the whole of 2018 and only returned to action in August of this year, beating Evert Bravo in Mexico.

“It’s very close [to being finalised],” promoter Eddie Hearn told Boxing News. “It’s just a really good fight for DAZN, America.”
