MANNY PACQUIAO has a date, April 9 next year, for what is expected to be the final fight of his glittering career. But he is yet to announce his opponent.

His promoter Bob Arum had announced a shortlist of three possibles, Tim Bradley, Terence Crawford and Amir Khan, who was still holding out for the Pacquiao fight when he spoke to Boxing News.

But a fourth name has crept into the frame. Adrien Broner could oppose Manny Pacquiao for his final fight. On Pacquiao, Broner posted on Instagram: “Whoever thinks this guy will beat me is a damn fool. I don’t lose to southpaws. Post blank period.”

He has however lost, both to Marcos Maidana and Shawn Porter. The glee that greeted those defeats makes Broner boxing’s pantomime villain, perhaps then an ideal opponent for the ‘people’s champion’ Pacquiao, especially for his swansong.

Broner however is advised by Al Haymon, who had a long, difficult negotiation with Pacquiao’s side to make Mayweather-Pacquiao.

It had been thought Broner, the holder of a WBA super-lightweight strap, would fight Britain’s Mayweather-promoted Ashley Theophane next year. That might stay on hold since Pacquiao isn’t expected to announce his opponent until the new year.
