Boxing News Readers’ Awards: Upset of the Year Number 4

Sam Soliman w pts 12 Felix SturmSA

SAM SOLIMAN had scored a surprise victory over perennial middleweight leader Felix Sturm in 2013, only for the points victory to be changed to a No Contest in the light of Soliman failing a post-fight drugs test.

The controversial aftermath papered over Sturm’s problems with Soliman, and the performance was largely thought to be a fluke. The rematch was set for May 31, and with Sturm coming off a win over Darren Barker, he was widely expected to set the record straight. But Soliman shocked the world again – and was your choice for the No.4 Upset of the Year – when he scored a lopsided decision triumph.
