WITH David Price displaying his disgust at the IBF’s baffling decision to install Erkan Teper with a lofty position [number three] on social media, his trainer, Dave Coldwell, is also upset with the recent announcement. Coldwell linked up with Price earlier this year and is relishing the task of returning the Liverpool heavyweight to the massive fights that were widely prophesied for him just a couple of years ago. His loss to Teper last year was a crushing blow but the subsequent drug test failure shortly after has angered Coldwell and he remains bewildered to how the culprit is just a couple of steps away from a lucrative title shot.
“Absolutely disgusting and I can’t believe there’s no sterner punishment for this stuff,” raged Coldwell. “Another one of my fighters, Tony Bellew, is perhaps the most outspoken person on this subject but everything he says is 100% spot on. This is the hardest sport with consequences of the highest order so for anyone to get in the ring with an illegal advantage is wrong and should be dealt with via the hardest punishments.”
Coldwell added, “Pricey is one of the straightest lads in the sport and not only has he had to deal with the blow of losing to Teper, he’s had to endure the aftermath and now he’s watching the same man potentially get a world title shot which in fairness he’s done nothing to earn. Everyone can see how this has effected Pricey and it’s understandable but what are those in charge who make the rules doing about it? Absolutely nothing it seems. Something needs to be done before this situation gets worse and gets out of hand. Although Pricey is one of my fighters, this obviously goes beyond the Coldwell Boxing stable. Something major has to be done to combat this.”
