THE mouth-watering clash between unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin and Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez will be broadcast on BoxNation and BT Sport in the UK.

The two elite warriors meet at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on September 16 with HBO airing the fight on pay-per-view in America.

Billy Joe Saunders will defend his WBO world middleweight title at the Copper Box Arena in London on the same night – the broadcast will be on pay-per-view, with further details to be outlined soon.

The announcement of the UK broadcaster was made at a press conference in London today, where the two combatants came face to face for the first time since the fight was announced immediately after Canelo’s one-sided victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jnr in May.

After being announced last week, Floyd  Mayweather-Conor McGregor swallowed up attention just days before Andre Ward’s stoppage win over Sergey Kovalev and there are concerns it could affect Golovkin-Canelo, which takes place just three weeks after it.

However, Golovkin-Canelo is the best fight that could have been made in the sport and for BoxNation and BT Sport, this is a real coup.

Golovkin, the WBA, WBC and IBF world middleweight champion, has risen to prominence with his thunderous power and captivating style while Canelo recently made the move up in weight after proving himself an elite fighter in a lower division. They are two of the biggest, and best, fighters on the planet and their meeting is hugely significant.

Updates to follow.
