Top five next opponents for Danny Jacobs

John Dennen considers who Danny Jacobs should fight next

1. Gennady Golovkin

Danny Jacobs has already boxed “GGG” and performed better than many expected when he lost a decision after 12 competitive rounds.

Golovkin still has the WBA, WBC and IBF middleweight titles and Jacobs would be the ideal opponent if Golovkin cannot secure a rematch with Canelo Alvarez after their controversial draw.

2. Andy Lee

It’s unlikely Jacobs can get on Canelo Alvarez’s radar without winning a world title or boosting his own profile further. Billy Joe Saunders and David Lemieux however are contesting the WBO middleweight crown in December. In the interim former world champion Andy Lee would make for a great fight in New York city.

3. Ryota Murata

The Japanese Olympic gold medallist is a strong brawler and a rising star in the middleweight division. He now has the secondary WBA middleweight title that Jacobs used to hold.

4. Jermall Charlo

After moving up from super-welter Charlo remains unbeaten and has looked electric. Putting him in with Jacobs would make for a high quality match.

5. Sergiy Derevyanchenko

If he’s waiting for Golovkin, fighting Derevyancheko would be perfect to get his rating with the IBF, plus the Ukrainian replicates “GGG’s” style. Jacobs knows this – he sparred him ahead of his fight with Golovkin earlier this year.
