EUROPEAN Champion, Peter McGrail is one of the three boxers from the GB Boxing squad in the British Lionhearts line-up for the team’s first match of the 2018 season of World Series Boxing (WSB) against the France Fighting Roosters, on today (Friday, February 2) 2018 in Paris. BoxNation will televise.
He is joined by two boxers that won silver medals at the 2017 European Championships, Rio Olympian, Galal Yafai, who will box at light-flyweight, and lightweight, Luke McCormack.
Two overseas selections, Eumir Marcial (Philippines) at light-heavyweight, and super-heavyweight, David Nyika (New Zealand) complete the line-up.
McGrail said, “I really enjoy World Series Boxing and am looking forward to the new season. France is a strong team and we have had lots of close matches against them so it should be a really good match.”
Britain and France met four times in the 2017 season of WSB with the Lionhearts wining both the home and away fixtures 3-2 in the group stages. The teams met again in the quarter-finals where France won 3-2 at home. The Lionhearts matched this in the away-leg to set-up a deciding bout which saw Soloman Dacres secure a debut points victory over Marin Mindoljevic to hand victory to the British team.
This year, the Lionhearts and France are in a four-team European group which also includes Italia Thunder, who return after missing out in 2017, and newcomers, the Croatian Knights.
After the France match, the Lionhearts have two home fixtures against the Croatian Knights on Friday February 16 2018 at Gateshead Leisure Centre and Italia Thunder at The Auditorium, Echo Arena Liverpool on Friday March 2 2018.
