ALL the talk prior to today’s weigh-in at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn was whether or not Daniel Geale, 31-3 (16), would make the contracted weight of 157lbs ahead of his challenge for Miguel Cotto’s WBC middleweight crown tomorrow night (June 6) at the same venue.
The 34-year-old Sydney resident came in bang on the limit, his lightest for eight years. The surprise came when the champion Cotto, 39-4 (32), weighed in at 153.6lbs, not only well within the contracted weight, but even less than the light-middleweight limit of 154lbs.
The Caguas, Puerto Rico-native’s defense against Geale will be televised by HBO in the US and Box Nation in the UK.
It is Cotto’s first outing under the Roc Nation Sports banner, who promote alongside his own Cotto Promotions.
