FORMER two-weight world champion Paulie Malignaggi is “80-20’ about fighting again but insists he will not hang around waiting for a shot at the European title. Malignaggi has not fought since his four-round drubbing at the hands of IBF champion Shawn Porter last April but was hoping to challenge EBU king Gianluca Branco on next week’s Kell Brook-Jo Jo Dan-topped card in Sheffield. Malignaggi qualifies for a shot due to his Italian heritage.
“They put it back to May, then July,” Malignaggi revealed. “But I don’t wanna wait all year for an EBU title fight. I’m still thinking things through, I’ve been training but I’m 80-20 – 80 per cent yes – that I will will fight again. My next fight is up to [his advisor] Al Haymon but I hope to have my chance on his PBC [Premier Boxing Champions] shows as well.”
