MANNY PACQUIAO will fight Adrien Broner next. Pacquiao, a legend of the sport, is 39 years old and  nearing the end of his glittering career. But the Filipino icon does hold a WBA ‘regular’ title, which he won when stopping Lucas Matthysse in Malaysia earlier this year.

There were hints of the power of old in that fight and that could be problematic for Broner. The controversial American has been hovering between super-lightweight and welterweight.

Broner hasn’t won since a 10 round split decision victory over Adrian Granados in February 2017. Mikey Garcia moved up from lightweight to outscore Broner later that same year. In his only fight in 2018 he drew with Jessie Vargas.

Pacquiao and Broner will embark on a media tour next week, stopping in New York and Los Angeles, on which they will announce the date and venue of their contest.

Pacquiao has surprisingly left his long term promoters Top Rank and has linked up with Al Haymon and his Premier Boxing Champions. This fight with Broner will be the first outing of a deal that could, perhaps, potentially lead him to a rematch with old antagonist Floyd Mayweather.
