Boxing news

THERE were two big fights in New York and both results split opinion. In the main event at Madison Square Garden Gennady Golovin outpointed Danny Jacobs and on the undercard Roman Gonzalez was stunned on the cards by Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. We were ringside and in this issue we give our verdicts on both fights, how we scored them and what we feel should happen next.

We also saw Michael Conlan make his pro debut – with an appearance from Conor McGregor – and David Brophy upset Zac Dunn in Australia for the Commonwealth super-middleweight title.

We preview the mouth-watering lightweight rematch between Jorge Linares and Anthony Crolla this weekend and pick a winner. Crolla’s trainer, Joe Gallagher, gives insight into how they have prepared for the fight and makes the argument for his man.

The brilliant Elliot Worsell takes a look at UK fighters who have decamped to America and how they’ve fared while we also go in-depth with rising super-lightweight Josh Taylor.
