FIGHTS the size of the impending Carl Froch-Mikkel Kessler rematch can entice the interest of the floating sporting fan and, in turn, persuade them to put their hands in their pockets and have a bet on the outcome.
Our digital partner, gambling giant William Hill, are expecting this weekend’s contest to attract the highest number of boxing bets since David Haye took on Wladimir Klitschko almost two years ago. The fact they’re offering potential punters a free £25 bet on the bout means this becomes the most popular fight to have a cheeky punt on for many years.
When the fight was first announced, there was a feeling that it was a 50/50 fight but as it draws closer, the Englishman has become a 1/2 favourite with Kessler the 7/4 outsider.
There is also a feeling that Froch, clearly pumped up with his recent ill-thought comments, will walk through his rival. William Hill are offering a special that “The Cobra” will win inside the first three rounds with a high price of 16/1. Kessler's chances of having a similar dream result are rated at 20/1.
There is always value in picking out a round. The highest odds you can get on both are understandably the opening session – 33/1 for Froch, 66/1 for the visitor.
The rounds with the shortest odds are five to eight for Froch (all 20/1), and rounds seven to 10 for Kessler (all 33/1).
It’s worth noting that, despite the ferocity of both, the bout is expected to go the distance. You can get a price of 8/13 for it go to the scorecards compared to 6/5 for an early finish. If it reaches the expected final bell, Froch is priced at 11/8 to get the nod whereas Kessler’s odds for being the points winner are 7/2.
