IBF world welterweight champion Kell Brook, & local boxer Adam Etches, take to the treadmill this weekend as they attempt a 24-hour endurance run, hoping to cover 120 miles. The local boxers will take on the challenge to raise funds for Weston Park Cancer Charity and injured boxer Nick Blackwell. Blackwell, aged 25, is recovering from an induced coma, after suffering a bleed in the brain following his fight on Saturday night at Wembley Arena.
‘The Blackwell Run’ will begin at 3pm this Saturday, April 2nd, at Napoleons Casino & Restaurant Owlerton, Sheffield. Following victorious wins in their hometown last weekend, both Adam & Kell are ready to take on the challenge and run through night and day until the finish line approaches at 3pm on Sunday, April 3rd.
Adam Etches commented, “If I’m honest I’m not looking forward to it! I can’t wait until it’s over but we’re focussed on getting the job done and raising as much money for Nick Blackwell and Weston Park as we possibly can. It will be tough but it’s all for a good cause!”
Etches continued, “It’s going to be a long 24 hour slog and we’ll need fuel to keep us going so we’d love it if as many people can come and visit us to cheer us on, and even bring us some bananas, jelly babies or Lucozade! Kell and I will also be ready to have a cheeky selfie with anyone that comes down to show their support.”
George Forsyth, General Manager at Napoleons Casino & Restaurant Owlerton, commented: “We’re really looking forward to hosting this amazing challenge and invite you all to come and cheer the boys on. We’re hoping to raise lots of money for Nick Blackwell and Weston Park but can’t do it without everyone’s support!”
