FOR a second time in succession Jamie McDonnell travelled to Texas to defeat Japan’s Tomoki Kameda and defend his WBA bantamweight title.

At the American Bank Center in Corpus Christi the Doncaster man took a unanimous win over “El Mexicanito” after putting Kameda down in the 12th and last round.

Glen Feldman scored 115-112, Jesse Reyes 116-111 and Steve Weisfeld 117-110, all for McDonnell.

“That fight felt easier than the last time. I felt in control. The jab was key – I think I threw that more than I threw anything. It was working and I felt in control all the way through,” McDonnell said afterwards.

Before the contest the Yorkshireman suggested he would move up a division to super-bantamweight. Plenty of appealing options should lie in wait for him there.
