CHRIS EUBANK JNR thrashed and outclassed Avni Yildirim inside three rounds in Stuttgart to progress to the semi-finals of the super-middleweight World Boxing Super Series. Many predicted a tough night for Eubank Jnr, but he made a mockery of such doubt with one of the finest performances of his career. The victory sets up a potential barnstormer with WBA champion George Groves, who takes on Jamie Cox next weekend.

Eubank Jnr started exceptionally well, jabbing purposefully as Yildirim approached. A swift right uppercut made the Turk – hailed for his durability beforehand – briefly touch down within the opening minute.

The Brighton man grew in confidence from that moment. A series of uppercuts found the mark in the second session before he planted his feet in the third and let fly with a series of power punches.

And then came the finish. Fighting his way out of the corner, Eubank hurled an array of shots at blistering speed, a left hook clattered home before a right followed. Yildirim was all at sea, swinging recklessly, and was caught by another hellacious left. Down he went, eyes swimming, his mission over. The referee stopped the fight to leave Eubank Jnr standing defiantly and victoriously in ring centre.

“I’m here to dominate this tournament,” Eubank Jnr said. “George Groves, get through your next fight with Jamie Cox and we’ll give the fans the fight they want. It will end like this.”
