GENNADY GOLOVKIN confirms his star power. He’s yet to have the chance to beat a big-name opponent but he’s won over boxing fans with the style of his performances. This year in brutal fashion he overcame Martin Murray and Willie Monroe Jnr, as well as taking apart IBF titlist David Lemieux at Madison Square Garden in his first pay-per-view fight to become a unified world middleweight champion. For the vast majority of our readers Gennady Golovkin was the fighter of the year with 64% of the vote.

Floyd Mayweather comprehensively defeated Manny Pacquiao, his closest rival for best fighter in the world today, as well as retiring after beating Andre Berto, his 49th career victory. But Mayweather only got 19% of the vote.

9% voted for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who hammered James Kirkland and beat Puerto Rican great Miguel Cotto this year, and 8% voted for flyweight sensation Roman Gonzalez.
