MATT RYAN has everything you would look for in an NFL quarterback – size, arm strength, accuracy and the ability to lead his team through testing situations. Ryan, who is at his best when spreading the ball to players across the offence, has once again proven himself to be a franchise quarterback.

During a close Week 6 loss at Seattle in which the Atlanta Falcons announced their playoff intentions to the rest of the NFL, Ryan topped 200 passing yards for the 45th game in a row – a remarkable period of consistency which yielded that all-time league record.

Other traits Ryan showed in that two-point loss were leadership and toughness. He stared down the infamous “Legion of Boom” defence and didn’t blink despite being hit 13 times and dropped for four sacks. In defeat, he took another step to regaining the respect he commanded around the league before a sub-par 2015 campaign.

“As a quarterback, I feel spoiled to have such talented guys around me,” Ryan says about his fellow Atlanta Falcons. “I know if I throw the ball up and give them a chance, they’re going to come down with it nine times out of 10 and get the job done.

“We have a really good core of players who are capable of beating anybody in the NFL. It comes down to being consistent and playing to our capability. If we can do that, I don’t think there is anybody in the NFL who we can’t play with.”
