THE build up has been tense as Andre Ward and Sergey Kovalev finally come to their rematch for the unified WBA, IBF and WBO light-heavyweight championship at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas on Saturday (June 17). The two have scarcely managed to be the same room at the same time with one another but at a frosty weigh-in on Friday they hit the scales, came in exactly on the 175lbs limit and went head to head.
12 three minute rounds.
In the United States HBO will broadcast on pay-per-view at 9pm ET, 6pm PT. In Britain the show will be screened on Sky Sports 1, starting at 2am in the UK.
Cuban maestro Guillermo Rigondeaux is back in action almost a year after his quick two round knockout of James Dickens. On the Ward-Kovalev undercard he defends his WBA super-bantamweight title against Mexico’s unbeaten, WBA interim titlist Moises Flores.
Among other undercard bouts are Dmitry Bivol versus Cedric Agnew and Luis Arias versus Arif Magomedov.
