ANDRE BERTO has been installed as the new favourite to take on Floyd Mayweather on September 12 in Las Vegas.

Just days after Amir Khan was named as Betway’s choice to take on Floyd Mayweather in his 49th bout, Berto  – who Floyd himself named as a potential opponent – has seen his odds slashed to 7-4 with the British star now priced at 5-2.

Others in the running are Keith Thurman (4-1) and Kell Brook (7-1), with Tim Bradley, Austin Trout and Karim Mayfield all priced at 11-1.

Mayweather recently confirmed on social media that his next, and possibly last, showdown will definitely take place on September 12, and several reports are suggesting the unbeaten American superstar’s swansong will be aired on free-to-air station CBS in the US.

Berto – who shares coach Virgil Hunter with Khan – would be a long way down the fans’ wishlist, having lost to Victor Ortiz, Robert Guerrero (both subsequently thrashed by Mayweather) and Jesus Soto Karass.

An official announcement from Floyd Mayweather is expected in the next week, so watch this space for updates.
