Hatton-Khan moves closer
This week's issue
THE Battle of Britain could be a goer for later this year as Amir Khan signs for Golden Boy and Ricky Hatton firms up his comeback plans. We speak exclusively to the “Hitman” and editor Tris Dixon picks through the complicated scenario of Khan’s promotional loyalties.
Legendary trainer Teddy Atlas is this week’s guest columnist and the intelligent, colourful character kicks off with his thoughts on Yuriorkis Gamboa and the April 17 match between veterans Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jnr.
We preview the big Madison Square Garden bill featuring hotshot Gamboa against tough Rogers Mtagwa and big banger Juan Manuel Lopez against slick Steve Luevano; the winners could meet. We also look ahead to Ian Napa’s British bantamweight title defence against Jamie McDonnelll in Brentwood and Brian Viloria is in action in the Phillipines.
Our main report is from Altrincham where Danny Flexen was ringside to watch British and Commonwealth cruiserweight champion Rob Norton and two-time ABA champion David Dolan go into battle again, with Kevin McIntyre-Mark Thompson and Cello Renda-Paul Samuels II on the undercard. Elsewhere, Vanes Martirosyan-Kassim Ouma was close and controversial in Las Vegas, while Ryan Brawley was elevated to main event status in Glasgow.
We have two superb features this week, about very different people but both possess strong characters: enigmatic Arena Box head Ahmet Ohner and long-time Belfast trainer Gerry Storey. Also, we found out where Newport feather Steve “Sammy” Sims is now and our 60-Second Interview is with Jamie McDonnell.

why?
What is in it for khan or hatton seriously im a fan of both boxers but i have to ask why? If khan beats hatton people will say he beat a past it fighter. If hatton beats khan people will say a beat a boxer half as good as himself with a glass chin. Im all for a Ricky comeback but this is pointless he needs to fight someone with a bigger name like marquez

Because they would both make a sack full of money. I for one would be interested in this fight & would struggle to pick a winner. My heart would hope for HATTON though KHAN has the style to beat him.

I am horrified over the suggestion that a Hatton v Khan fight should take place. I am a big fan of Ricky's and as a fan that cares about him, he should retire now, presumably he is a wealthy lad now, and after his two severe knockout losses it is crazy he should risk his health against Khan or anyone else. He should walk away whilst he still can. As for Khan whilst I know he needs high profile fights,in my view they should be still against boxers without any heavy artillary, because, he is suspect in the chin department. Therefore a fight against say Malignaggi would be a good starter, followed maybe one against Holt and maybe then a fight against another name fighter of a higher calibre. I feel Amir who I am also a fan of needs a degree of protection still! One thing for sure, I for one would not like to see a Hatton v Khan fight! Stuart

stuart, its sounds you want khan wrapped in cotton wool.this is pro boxing.dont watch it then..hatton is not the fighter he was,so if khan cannot beat hatton now..he should retire.
0 | 20/01/2010 19:31:38HATTON IS FROM OLD SCHOOL TALKING ABOUT HIMSELF AS THOUGH ITS ANOTHER PERSON JUST AS LENOX DID NOT COOL SAVE YOURSELF FROM FURTHER HITS TO YOUR PRIDE LET..... ALONE YOUR HEALTH.ENJOY YOU FAMILY AND ADVISE YOUR BROTHER TO DO THE SAME
0 | 21/01/2010 23:34:39golden boy
its obvious that khan v hatton is a goer due to the fact ,khan has left frank warren ,to sign for golden boy ,ricky feels he still has the beating of a so called chinny khan ,i doubt this very much ,retire now ricky ,and lets savour the memories
0 | 22/01/2010 01:07:25Get on with it!
I am a fan of boxing and want to see more fights on the TV. There is no way Hatton will lose the weight this side of June. Khan should take a fight with Maidana, Malignaggi or Ortiz and then fight Hatton later in the year. Lets see more boxing and less worry about pay days. If these guys are as good as they say they are it should be anyone anywhere.
0 | 23/01/2010 08:26:30stop running from witter,HATTON
i think ricky hatton should fight a good warm up at say 147lb.then xmas time get it on with khan at 140lb,when hattons body as ajusted and he feels strong and sharp.so hatton stop running from junior witter and sort him out, witter is on the slide himself.you atleast owe your fans that.stop running from him.
0 | 23/01/2010 11:29:30hatton is out of his league
hatton is far superiour to khan khan hasnt really fought anyone ok he beat barrera but he was way past his best hatton is still a class act people have to remember he has bin in the ring with the best and beat 90% of them he only lost to the best pound 4 pound fighters around not bad going really not many boxers can say theyve done this im a very big fan of ricky and i think hes got one more good run in him he should concentrate on real fighters like marqez mayweather he can beat thease people i belive he can i wouldnt waste time on khan yes hes good but hes not great and with his chin never will be
0 | 26/01/2010 21:30:54hope hatton batters him
