Review of the year... and the decade!
This week's issue
YOU cannot afford to miss this week’s Boxing News as we crown not only the top fighters and contests of 2009, bust we also dish out the awards for the best of the last decade. That’s right while we have a seven-page review of last year, boxing in the noughties is marked with a FREE 16-page pullout. I am sworn to secrecy but suffice to say names like Hatton, Calzaghe, Pacquiao and Mayweather will all be featured, but who will be crowned the best British and International Fighters of the Decade? Grab a copy this Friday and find out.
The Big Preview looks ahead to the rematch from a thrilling encounter last year between Rob Norton and David Dolan. British and Commonwealth cruiserweight titles are up for grabs in Altrincham, while Freddie Roach’s light-middle hope Vanes Martirosyan takes a big step up against former belt-holder Kassim Ouma.
Our Action section is led by Robert Stieglitz’s first defence of his WBO super-middleweight title against late sub Ruben Acosta, with Anthony Mundine and Roman Karmazing also in action and a big upset in Tokyo.
If all that’s not enough we have an exclusive extract from Brian and Damian Hughes’ new book on Thomas Hearns, Bob Mee investigates the Latvian imports who recently stunk out a Frank Maloney bill and Carl Thompson recalls his greatest night in boxing. In our News section, we speak to George Groves and pay tribute to the late Mick Leahy.
