Matthew Marsh

West Ham’s 26-year-old British super-bantamweight champion, 10-1 (1)

Age started boxing: 10. I was always keep-fit mad and dad took me to wear me out!

First boxing memory: Just looking forward to going to the gym.

Inspiration: I used to like Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali.

Favourite all-time fighter: Oscar De La Hoya in his prime. He was pukka!

Best fight you’ve seen: Tyson-Evander Holyfield, when he bit his ear off!

Pre-fight meal: Chicken and pasta.

What do you do to relax: Watch telly and movies.

Pre-fight superstition: I don’t want to say!

What training do you do between fights: I still go to the gym two or three times a week. Maybe a bit of swimming and a couple of jogs. I’m always half fit.

Typical breakfast: Shredded Wheat... only the two!

Toughest part of being a boxer: Watching my diet.

Favourite music: I like all music.

Last book read: One about The Krays.

Favourite film: Scarface or Casino.

What car do you drive: My dad’s Volkswagen Golf.

Where do you train: The TKO gym in Canning Town with Johnny Eames and Peter Swinney.

Training routine: I go for a six-mile run at five o’clock in the morning then go back to sleep. At 11am, I start at the gym for about two-and-a-half hours; shadow box to warm up, then spar, skip, groundwork and a stretch. Twice a week I do a weights session.

Toughest man faced: Rocky Dean. He’s just hard, keeps coming, don’t care!

What supplements do you take: SIS. Some powdered gel stuff.

Job outside boxing: None but if I did, I’d be a fireman or in the army, something like that.

Last place you went on holiday: Ibiza.

Best boxer in the sport today: I know he got beat but it’s got to be Miguel Cotto. He’s good.

Favourite football team: Chelsea.
