Junior Witter

Bradford’s 34-year-old former WBC light-welterweight champion, 37-2-2 (22)

Age started boxing: 11

First boxing memory: My mum’s a massive boxing fan and I always remember her telling me to watch out for Mike Tyson, when he was still an amateur, because he’d be a definite future world champion. I thought ‘What you on about?!’

Inspiration: Varies. Sugar Ray Leonard. He was flash, different, had the ‘Wow!’ factor. ‘How did he do that? How did he have the cheek to do that?!’

Motivation: To be the best. I’m competitive in my boxing. I want to be known as the best.

Favourite all time fighter: Ray Leonard, definitely.

Best fight seen: Benn-McClellan, apart from what happened after. Every punch, you knew someone was getting hurt. Their chins were phenomenal. Skillwise, Mike McCallum-Herol “Bomber” Graham.

Pre-fight meal: Porridge with water, five hours before I fight.

What do you do to relax: Sex works very well! Watching sci-fi on television.

Pre-fight superstitions: None.

What training do you do between fights: Eight-10 sessions a week. They vary between runs, weights, gym sessions and body sparring.

Typical breakfast: In training, porridge. Out of training,

anything. A good English breakfast.

Toughest part of being a boxer: The politics. The frustration of having fights cancelled, after you’ve done all the training, does your head in.

Last book read: I’m not a big reader. I do a lot of logic problems, sudoku.

Favourite film: Stir Crazy. I also love Jackie Chan films, action and comedy.

What car do you drive: Blue BMW three series. I’m changing soon.

Where do you train: St Thomas Boys Club, Wincobank, Sheffield with the Ingles.

Training routine: Up at 6am. Run 40 minutes, five miles. Hit the gym around 11am for 90 minutes to two hours. I do whatever Dominic (Ingle) tells me! Pads, bags... I have a similar (length) session starting around 4pm, maybe sparring and weights.

Toughest man faced: (This was before the Tim Bradley fight) Lovemore Ndou. Very tough and game. I hit him with everything, dropped him yet he kept coming. Real grit and determination. He was awkward and really wanted it.

What supplements do you take: Plenty, too many to mention. Dom sorts it out.

If you weren’t a boxer what would you be: Unhappy! Perhaps a fiction writer!

Last place you went on holiday: Gran Canaria.

Favourite football team: Doncaster Rovers.

Best boxer in the sport today: Me! Nah, you’ve got to go with Floyd (Mayweather).
