TERENCE CRAWFORD did not pick an easy maiden voyage in his first outing as WBO lightweight boss on June 28.

Cuban challenger Yuriorkis Gamboa was favoured by the bookmakers to triumph, but inactivity – he had been out of the ring for over 12 months – and Crawford’s brilliance proved too much.

Gamboa struggled early before fighting his way back in the middle rounds. Sensing a turning tide, Crawford defiantly switched stances and bullied Yuriorkis into defeat in the ninth.
