IRELAND is producing tremendous boxers. Michael Conlan is one of their leading stars. He’s still young but already has big tournament experience, and an Olympic bronze medal. Bantamweight was a demanding weight class at Glasgow 2014 and Conlan had to tackle all the top boxers. He beat India’s tough Shiva Thapa and had to endure a horrible cut against reigning champion Sean McGoldrick in their semi-final. It held up in the final against England’s slick Qais Ashfaq as Conlan had to bully his way forward to take the gold.
